Screamin' Miss Jackson & The Slap Ya' Mama Big Band: I Heard the Voice of a Donut

Retro septet Screamin' Miss Jackson & The Slap Ya' Mama Big Band bring the swing of New Orleans to any stage that will have them. Their new album I Heard the Voice of a Donut is a foot-tapping trip down memory lane, with bits of skiffle and Thirties jazz thrown in for good measure. While the music could be mistaken for being recorded in the Deep South of the USA, there is no denying their Englishness with their knack for wordplay and taking a stab at religion (Take Jesus on a Date).

Good time music for sure, but they don't close their eyes for heartbreak (Any Old Town) or getting booze-induced trouble (The Whiskey Tastes Too Good). Screamin' Miss Jackson & The Slap Ya' Mama Big Band keep the musical entertainment of yesteryear alive, with an energy that is highly contagious. Their twangy goodness will get bored festival crowds back on their feet and turn pubs into swinging juke joints.
