NY shoegaze duo Elika have grown into a quartet of sorts with the addition of Khaya Lou (from Mahogany) and Andrew Kwasny for a trilogy of 7 inch records called Girls, Be Serious. The first one, Moving Faster b/w Bury, is available for pre-order through Saint Marie Records.
The core duo of Evagelia Maravelias (vocals, keyboards, illustration) and Brian Wenckebach (guitar, keyboards, programming) have come up with a double whammy of dreamy synths and lonesome guitar supporting the Madonna-esque vocals. Taking cues from bands like electo-revivalists M83 they dig deep, using an Eigthies backbeat for Moving Faster and layered background vocals adding a choir like feel to Bury. Elika are painting with broad strokes, without losing their sense for detail.
