ZAPPATiKA: The Short But Legendary Flight of the Dodo

Every once in awhile an album comes along that is really weird, but in a good way. Genre? For now Zappa-esque will do, which is appropriate because the members of Zappatika are into FZ big time. Determined to bring his legacy into the 21st century they write songs in his style but with a twist, including countless samples and quotes from the moustached maestro.

The Short But Legendary Flight of the Dodo is an ambitious lo-fi album which will freak out the initiated. Treated stunt guitar licks over a dance break and spoken word is a sure fire way to remain obscure, but since they are promoting themselves as "music 4 the mindful minority" they apparently don't give a fuck. Their live shows are a bit more melodic, and they do quite a few of FZ songs, shearing his knack for humorous (and often sexually explicit) lyrics. A song like My Little Pony isn't exactly suitable for children's ears. Love it or leave it.

An all FZ CD/DVD cover album called Strictly Frankly will be released later this year. Their first ever UK tour kicks off March 18.
